Seed Lac is a semi-processed natural resin obtained from sticklac, the raw form of lac secreted by the lac insect (Kerria lacca). After the sticklac is harvested from host trees like Palash, Kusum, or Ber, it is crushed, washed, and sieved to remove impurities such as twigs, dust, and insect remains. The cleaned product is then dried and packed as Seed Lac.
This stage is crucial in the lac value chain because Seed Lac is the base raw material for further processing into Shellac, Button Lac, or Aleuritic Acid. It retains the natural properties of lac resin while being easier to transport, store, and refine.
