Entrepreneurship Development among Women & Tribal Youth

To build a self-sustaining lac ecosystem and create decentralized rural employment, the organization will promote entrepreneurship among women and tribal youth. This approach will not only improve the efficiency of lac value chains but also drive inclusive economic growth.

Contract Farming Model

  • The organization will promote contract farming by leasing lac host trees (Palash, Kusumi, Ber) to entrepreneurs for 3 to 5 years. Under this model:
    • Entrepreneurs will pay either a seasonal lease rent or share 20–30% of the lac yield with the tree owner.
    • This system ensures proper care and scientific management of host trees.
    • It provides additional income to landowners, particularly those who are otherwise hesitant to take up lac cultivation themselves.
  • Proven models from states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will be adapted and implemented.
  • The organization will provide site-specific models, technical training, input kits, and market linkage support to contract-based entrepreneurs.

Lac Processing Enterprises

Women and youth will be supported to establish small to medium-scale lac processing units focused on Seed Lac and Button Lac production.

Support will include:

  • Access to processing technology and equipment
  • Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs)
  • Guidance in unit setup and operations.
  • Training programs on processing techniques and quality control.
  • Supply of raw materials (sticklac) and access to online marketing platforms (e-commerce portal)

This will create local value addition opportunities, leading to higher incomes and regional branding of processed lac products.

Service-Based Enterprises & Supply Chain Management

  • Entrepreneurs will also be encouraged to offer critical support services across the lac cultivation and processing ecosystem, such as:
    • Nursery development and host tree plantation
    • Pesticide spraying services using scientific protocols
    • Skilled labor support for pruning and broodlac inoculation
    • Transport, aggregation, and storage services
  • By promoting these decentralized service units, the organization will ensure:
    • Efficient supply chain management
    • Timely service availability for farmers and processors
    • Entrepreneurial income streams for rural youth and SHGs
